Hindu Kush Earthquake 2015
On October 26 a magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck the border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan. This is a very seismically active region, as the Indian-Australian Plate is converging with the Eurasian Plate, forcing up the Himalayan Mountains. As of October 30, there have been 390 fatalities, compared to a similar sized earthquake (7.6) in the region in 2005 which resulted in over 85,000 deaths. Why the disparity in casualties?
